Frequently Asked Questions

We will open virtually on Monday, August 24 at 8:15 AM for ALL students.

Our instructional day will take place from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Classes will take place live and will be recorded for those students who need to access the lesson again. 

When school starts, all students’ iPads will have the camera activated so that students can participate in their virtual classes. Teachers will facilitate lessons for students utilizing Summit Learning and students will access their class via Webex. Through Summit Learning, teachers assign resources and checkpoints for students to review and complete independently or in small groups electronically.

Students should be in full uniform for Virtual Learning. This way, we will continue to build a strong Junior Bison community. Full uniform includes a (MS)2 logo polo shirt, blue uniform bottoms and all Black shoes. 

Uniforms can be ordered online on the school website at https://dev.hu-ms2.org/store/. Parents who order shirts online will have the option to pick up or have the shirts shipped to you.

6TH GRADE FAMILIES may pick up/purchase uniform shirts along with school-issued technology beginning August 3, during new student testing. 

7TH AND 8TH GRADE FAMILIES may pick up/purchase uniform shirts beginning August 17, 2020.

No, students should not need supplies beyond a pencil and paper along with their school-issued iPad. In the event that students are asked to come into the school building, any supplies will be provided for them.

New parents are invited to pick up their child’s school-issued iPad beginning Monday, August 3. 

Schedule a time to pick up your child’s technology (as well as purchase/pick up uniform shirts) HERE. 

If you do not have wifi at home, you can also request/pick up a hotspot during your appointment.

Returning parents may bring your child’s iPad to the school building any time between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need additional support.

Students will be invited into the building once this summer for new student testing. This testing will help us to determine students’ strengths and challenges in math and reading to help create their personalized class schedule for the 2020-21 school year. Testing at the Howard University Middle School is scheduled to take place during the week of August 3, with only 10 students in the building testing at one time along with several precautions to keep students and staff safe. Please use the link to learn more and register your child for testing as soon as possible. Spaces are limited for each day and time slot, so be sure to save your child’s spot ASAP!

Starting with the 2020-21 school year, DC students who have not received their required immunizations within the first 20 days of school will be removed from in-person instruction until they receive the required immunizations and provide documentation to the school. To ensure that all students can return to in-person instruction once it is safe, we want to continue to encourage parents to return updated medical and dental forms by the first day of school. 

Let’s make sure your child is ready. Take these three steps now:

  1. Schedule your child’s annual wellness visit today and ask your physician to complete the Universal Health Certificate. To make an appointment, call your doctor’s office or find a provider by clicking here. If you need access to health insurance, please visit the DC Health Link website or call 311.
  2. Make sure your child has received all of their immunizations. If you’re not sure whether your child has received all of their immunizations, ask your doctor’s office and request a copy of your child’s immunization history to share with the school.
  3. Submit the Universal Health Certificate and any other immunization documents to info@hu-ms2.org. Call the school to confirm they’ve received it!
